    I could use your help!

I am looking to purchase a cheap 2.5" Sata hd enclosure (with a USB external connection) for my 250 GB Fujitsu (5400rpm) harddrive which I originally purchased from Dell. My problem is that I am unsure that the thickness of my harddrive (about 8-9mm) will fit inside the various enclosures that I see listed for sale on the various web sites.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an enclosure that will allow a fairly thick Sata harddrive (about 9mm) to fit inside it?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    Best regards.

The only 2.5" drive that has a 12.5mm height/depth is the Hitachi 5K500. All other 2.5" notebook HDDs have a standard height/depth/thickness of 9.5mm.

So any 2.5" 9.5mm SATA enclosure will work. You just have to make sure you buy one with the correct interface.

    BTW I like this one !! ;)

Thanks very much Andy and K-tron for your advice and help. I went ahead and ordered a Rosewill enclosure from Newegg.

I'm using a Sarotech enclosure for both IDE and SATA. They've so far proven to be reliable and stable. Transfer rates has also been good.

The Fujitsu drive that comes with the Sony Vaio FW is 12,5mm as well! I'm looking for a good enclosure for it that fits. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Dont worry, it will fit, 9mm is the standard. The only exception are (to my knowledge) some fujitsu drives which are (as far as i remember) 12 mm thick.

Good and cheap enclosures can be also found on a Chinese online shop www.dealextreme.com which is proven to be reliable.

    It's the 300GB 4200rpm. I looked it up and it's 12.5mm high.

I guess it is impossible to find an enclosure designed for those 12.5 mm high HDDs. You may still use them as external drives using usb to sata adapter,
or an adapter taken from any sata enclosure.
