Is it worth getting a blue-ray dvd player with such a low screen resolution size? I am looking to order a new notebook and am considering this option.
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards.

it does look noticeably better I found on my 17inch screen, but thats all the input I have.

Not as good as Full HD ofcourse, but you'll need to sit close to see the difference. -
It even looks better with my 13.3" 1280x800. Granted, the bigger the screen, the better but Blu-ray is more than just higher resolution. BD has richer color, less or no artifact, more detail etc.

Yeah, i've got the Alienware in my Sig with a Blu-Ray Player, seems to fit the bill nicely... Videos look crisp and 'un-scaled' (that the term im looking for?)
Could have gone for the 1900*1200 screen but i wanted a glossy screen

Thanks everyone. I guess I will get the Blue-ray dvd player.

As others have said, there is a difference even on a 1440x900 screen, then again you can always connect it to a much larger HDTV or an external monitor to experience full resolution.

Does BD technically have/support richer/more colours than DVDs or only higher resolution and newer codecs and whatnot? (sometimes I'm a colour freak :3).

A Bluray video can have a maximum bitrate of 40Mbps Vs 9.8Mbps for a DVD. Since a DVD has roughly 1/5 the resolution of a bluray, 1080p resolution with MPEG2 at the same quality means around 48MBps, this is not exactly but roughly very close to the bluray bit rate, but given that H.264 has far superior quality compared to MPEG2 at the same bitrate, we can conclude that blurays should look much better than a DVD despite the resolution difference. This doesn't necessarily mean better colors, it means less artifacts = better quality ( numbers for the calculations taken from this page) -
Anyone using a Blue-ray dvd player on a 15" 1400x900 screen?
