I just recently ordered some AS5 to replace the awful thermal paste applied by the OEM of my laptop. I plan on placing it on my CPU, but are there other places I should apply it such as the GPU? Also, could someone post pics of what it should look like when it's done. I have a Duo Core T9900, ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 (512MB VRAM) with Intel ATM, and an Intel GM45 Chipset.

I put it on the core of my GeForce 9500M GS, and I think it's helped keep it running rather cool (never seen it go above 80 Celsius).

Remember, less is more with AS5. Put too much and you will likely get even higher temps.

Regardless, having too much excess thermal paste squeezing out is unnecessary.

Strike 2 and wrong again....
AS5 has ZERO conductivity. It will NOT short anything out. It has a very slight capacitance to it NOT conductivity. Dont feel bad, most people have no idea what that means. -

lol that was rude..............anyways dont use AS5 use ICD7 buy from here: http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/ic-diamond-7-carat-thermal-compound-15-gram-p-16605.html way better than AS5 in terms of cooling

Yes, ICD7 is best.

Anyone else on this ICD7 stuff? Is it really better than as5?

MX-2 is really good too. Out of all of them, it is the easiest to apply and remove.

repeated from above

As long as you have some thermal paste on your CPU or GPU, it doesn't really matter. I can put toothpaste on my GPU if I wanted to and I wouldn't need to worry about my temps, and yes I've done it before. Keeping your system clean and maintained on a routine basis also important in keeping optimal temperatures. Just choose any of the crowd favorite pastes and you'll be good to go.

I applied AS5 to my laptop's CPU a month ago, and my temps dropped 1-2 degrees C. Not much, but I wanted to strip the whole thing down and blow out the dust and change some RAM anyway (4GB - moving to 7 x64 soon). While I was at it, I used some AS. My C2D didn't have a big metal heat spreader like was shown in AS5's instructions, but I put I think kind of a lot on there. The old, dry paste that was there was spilling out around the edges of the chip, so I don't think leakage is a big deal at all, at least with my 1520. I didn't see any metal connections/connectors on the motherboard that it could mess up.
Applying AS5?
