Dunno, but back in june, I bought a 1GB PC2-5300 (aka DDR2 667) chip from newegg for $27, and this afternoon, the cheapest I could find for same type of chip was $39.99, hope it's just a temporary blip.

Over 1.5 years I'm pretty sure ram prices would be lower, it's a pretty long time computerwise. However I do think the current cheap prices are temporary, apparently the ram companies made too many chips or something.

Obviously they have no where else but to go down. Look at a stick of 128mb. 10 years ago this was a couple hundred dollars and it would've quadrupled the amount of memory in my $2000 gateway desktop.
Nowadays, a 1gb stick costs 1/3 of that, so in 5 years a 2gb stick will be a lot cheaper than it is now. -

reason i found for low prices of current memory was that the main ram companies over manufactured in the wake of vista as they were at the time informed that the requirements it needed were high 2-3gb and so the only way to clear the old stock to clear the backlog was to flood the market with lower prices and supposedly by christmas they should have leveled out and the new stock should have filtered into the market place but then agan it may take longer as in next summer
reminds me of when atari made those mllions of copies of ET for its console way back in the 80's and never sold many so ended up burying them in the nirvada desertnearly made them bankrupt

actually no they can only go up. http://www.digitimes.com/bits_chips/a20070726VL200.html

Do you see anyone paying a lot of money nowadays for a ddr2 256mb or 512mb stick? -

No, but I see people paying a lotta money for pc133 512mb sticks
-
But 2gb sticks of ddr2 memory will be made for years to come, so their supply is going up big time right now. Thus prices will go down.
But eventually, as pc133 ram did, 2gb sticks of ddr2 memory will become obsolete, manufacturers will stop making them, at which time their prices will increase due to the very limited supply.
Are 2GB sodimm prices expected to go down further ?
