I am thinking of getting a Western Digital 500GB My Passport Essential USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive down the road to use has a jukebox.

Are these good or will the music skip etc when playing?

you mean 2.5" drive? what are you gonna hook it into?

if you're thinking on listening on the road (moving) then dont, these drive are not designed for that, it will reduce its lifespan and might cause a head crash, which can lead to data lost and hardware failure.

iPod (HDD), which has a 1.8" drive are slightly more durable, although you still should avoid shaking it much when it is loading music.

i think when you're worried about music skip (using it while jogging, on the move, etc.) it is better to get a flash (solid-state) based one.

He means down the road by in the future....

They will work fine for playing music off of randall. Just remember to keep your music backed up in more than one place because drives do die.

I was thinking of hooking it up tp my laptop. I been seeing those Seagate ads where the guy plays music and video and thought it would be cool.

It'll be fine. Idealy it is better to have a larger internal storage first before getting externals. Maybe you should upgrade your laptop to 500gbs first?
