I am trying to figure out if all the C2D mobile chips are 64 bit capable or is it just the T7200+ that are?

    Thanks in advance. :)

Yes, all Core 2 Duo CPU's are 64-bit capable.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was worried that I was going to have to get a T7200+ if I wanted to run Windows Vista 64 bit on a new laptop. Now I can set my sights on a cheaper C2D laptop.

No, all C2D are 64-bit. However, you should still get a 7200+ cpu so you can run vista smoothly. a 64bit cpu does not mean it is 2X faster than 32bit ones. Only highly scientific calculations will take the benefit and besides, most consumer related programs are only 32-bit

Any Core 2 Duo CPU should run Windows Vista just fine.

Even older Core Duo's should run Vista fine.

The speed difference between the T7200 and T5600 (or less) doesn't seem to make a huge difference in performance from what I hear. The laptop that I am getting is just going to be used for college/uni homework, surfing and other basic stuff. I put together a new desktop about 2 months ago that will be used for all my gaming and video editing needs.

I just wanted to make sure that I would be able to run 64 bit windows if and/or when I decide to.

In that case, any of the C2Ds should be fine. The only reason to prefer a T7 over a T5 series C2D is the increased cache size...

For most applications, that's certainly true. I'd only advise a T7 series if you're planning on repetitive, CPU intensive tasks like A/V encoding, software compilation or heavy photoshop work. For basic office/internet applications it's overkill.
