I'm curious about the distributed weight quality on recordable DVD's and CD's. I've noticed that production DVD or CD's when I install a game or apps or whatever, they are quiet in my notebook DVD drive. But when I go to install something off a DVD I made, it seems to be quite noisy.
Could it be that consumer recordable media isn't as high quality and thus can be unbalanced? Or what could cause this?

What do you use for labels? A marker, or a sticker?
Could even a label done with a marker be enough of a weight to throw it out of balance?
What brand are you using for your media? A name brand, or a dollar store variant? -
Same difference whether I use nothing or a DVD marker. I never use labels. I have two DVD brands, one with solid white surface (no name) and one name brand with logo, etc on it. The name brand seems worse. I also have CDR's that have an effect too.

Never noticed any real vibration, but I have noticed that the occasional record-able disc has clicked as it spun. Upon examination, the discs in question have had areas that looked rough, around the edges.
Your observation is sound, and based upon valid reasoning, for sure. -
Some of the really cheap fake DVD discs are never balanced (as that would cost money). I generally have no problems with high quality names like Verbatim etc.

It could also be the speed, it could be the slower ones dont level out as well and create more noise.
Are recordable DVD's less balanced than production ones?
