I read some threads back in 2005-2006 talking about how a mointer or laptop shipping with a dead pixels or stuck etc is not very rare. Now that it is 2009 are the chances of dead pixels and stuck pixels lower?

I would say yes, but if your notebook has dead pixels can't you just get them to repair it?

I bought 4 notebooks in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2008. Only the first one got bad pixels. The other 3 are perfect.

I bought one laptop in 2005 and it had one dead pixel. I bought my second laptop in 2008 and it had no problems. So it is clear that the chances of getting dead pixels is lower.

Ive come across a lot of new notebooks and screens over the year, none of them had dead or stuck pixels.
Also ordered 20x 19" LCD monitors for work recently and not a dead pixel. -
I even replaced my screen myself last year and no dead pixels,KOW.So i think chances are slim it would happen.

If you buy something, come home see dead pixels and you can't live with them.
You can always return it within at least a week or more (thought 28 days at least over here).
Don't think you need a reason to return something you just bought.
I've got 1 stuck pixel (green/white) but it isnt annoying lower right corner, was hoping on a perfect screen but it didnt bother me enough to return it and wait for a replacement. -
Most sellers have fairly complicated rules on what counts as a "defective" screen. Usually, the way they do it is split the screen in to 9 equal areas, then say something like if there are 2 or more dead pixels within an area the size of a dime in the center box or 5 or more in the size of a dime in a different box (different venders have different numbers) or something like 15-20 or more dead across the entire screen, the screen is defective and can be warranty replaced. Of course, if (like me) you are concerned about having ANY dead pixels, most vendors offer additional zero dead pixel warranty coverage for an added fee.
Are the chances of getting a dead pixel lower?
