The external WD Passport 320gb drives go for the same price as the internal WD Scorpios. Does anyone know if they are indeed the same drive?

Yes, they are the same harddrives. There is an adaptor inside of the enclosure, which connects the harddrive to the interface, usually usb.
Simply take apart the external, and take the laptop harddrive out.
Usually the warranty on an external is 1 year, but if you bought the scorpio from WD, you would have a 3 year warranty.

Wouldn't the drive inside the WD Passport have a label and separate warranty? The Hitachi USB enclosure dirves had something similar going on, and the drives inside had 3 years warranty on those whereas the USB enclosure had 1 year.

no....even on the label of the external drive packaging said that it has 3 years warranty (at least mine did). so i would assume they all have the same warranty.
Are the drives in the WD Passports the same as the WD Scorpios?
