Like could I get Sony to? Or tekserve or somewhere else?
I'd like to put a higher resolution screen. I'm very satisfied with 900p but I've seen what the jump from 720->900 is like and 900-1080 would be pretty great.

Yeah I'm just looking at my options. I'm really satisfied with 900p. I feel like the sweetspot would be right between 900 and 1080 because when i aero snap two chrome windows I find it to be just a tiny bit overlapping when I resize them how I like. 1080p would give too much whitespace but I'd rather be on the high end than low end.
If it would be like... 500 bucks I wouldn't bother lol but if it were 100 dollars service charge + 100 dollars for the screen I'd probably do it. -
unless you're prepared to DIY, the cost probably isn't worth it. Bench time is a min of $50 an hour and they will run it on their clock, not yours.
remember that you are also voiding any warranty you have left on the machine. -
Its really easy to replace the screen yourself. Dont waste yoru hard earned money on it if you dont want to DIY.
-
I could do it myself but I haven't seen any guides online for my specific computer.

its probably a case of undoing screws behind rubber supports around the monitor and pulling the bezel away from the back.
-
Will I have to stick with 16:9? I'm fine with that honestly but if not I'll go 1920x1200.
-
you are stuck with what physically fits (including the bezel) and the capabilities of your graphics chip and system bios as well as the specific lvds (16/24/32 bit or 8/16/20/30/50 wires in the connectors) implementation in your machine. Don't forget the availability (or not) of a ribbon cable to hook everything up.
Lots of variables there. Maybe too many to take a chance with a part you probably can't return.
Your call. -
That's basically why I wanted to out-source the project to someone else and let them deal with that stuff.
-
If you want a higher resolution screen the only thing stopping you is compatibility. Generally speaking 1080P screens come in 50~ pin flavors. Lower resolution screens come in 30~ pin flavors.
-
Is there any way to tell what I have? Is there the option to get a 30 pin 1080p screen?
What about things like RGB? -
Only way we can help you 100% is to pop open your screen, and check the connector.
Are there places that will replace a screen for me?
