Got this brand new Sony TX notebook that came with these unknown
markings on the screen.
Is this the "dead pixel" LCD problem?
I've heard there are software utilities that I can use it to repair?
I can't simply get a replacement unit because this is a discontinued item.

I can still see the pixels under the marking light up...
It just look like as if that thin dark film on the LCD are scratched off?
Sorry if this is a newbie question... this is my first notebook and I can
use all the help I can get.
Appreciate any input.
Thanks.

Hmmm, looks like a faulty LCD, is it possible to get a closer look?
Or it could be moisture under the screen. -
Nope, that's just a broken screen...
Well, not sure what that is, but dead pixels are just individual pixels that are unable to light up.
Stuck pixels, similarly, are individual pixels that are always on.
What you have looks more like physical damage to the screen. -
Is that a common thing?
No wonder one guy said the same thing with his notebook but went away
after 24 hours...
As for closer look, I'll take better pics tonight...
(notebook not with me right now)
THANK YOU coriolis!! -
No, those are not dead pixels. With those, you can't see at all what's supposed to be there, but what you have is weird and translucent. It's obviously not dirty since you just got it. Don't know what it is, but if it's not moisture like Cori said, you should return it and request a replacement.
They may try to stick you with repairing this one, but you didn't break it, so they should give you a brand new machine. You may want to put a tiny scratch on the inside, like inside the plastic covering the RAM, to make sure they don't try to trick you. Sucks, and good luck.

I think you're right... it's not a dead pixel issue.
I mean, I can see the markings w/o turning on the notebook! -
I don't think it's moisture. I think it's just physically broken. An impact on the screen must have caused it. And no. Even from that distance, it's easy to tell it's not related to pixel problems. You have to have that replaced immediately!!!

They wanted to give me a replacement but the item is totally sold out
already. I got a really good deal on it and it's unlikely that I'll be able to
get the same notebook for same price anywhere else.
I hope it's just moisture under the screen. I will take better pictures of it
tonight.
Any good procedure on removing moisture under the screen?
Thank again guys/gals!! -
Go to the store where you bought it and INSIST that you want a brand new one. Make it clear to them that "fixing" it is not an option for you.
-
I really don't think it's moisture. Look at the patterns.. They are perfectly lined. Longitudinal lines. It wouldn't be so if it were moisture that caused that.
-
They already sending me the return label and I'll get my money back if I
return it. I will not be able to get a replacement b/c it's a discontinued item
that they completely sold out of.
I agree with you and that moisture leak would probably be at the corners?
It's probably from impact like you said. Although the LCD screen has no sign
of cracking. -
I know it sucks not to get a replacement. Anyway, hundreds of laptops await you. I'm sure you can find a new one that's just as good as that sony model you bought or even a better one. Besides, you're in notebook review. So I don't think it will be a problem to find a new notebook. Your welcome. Goodluck by the way.

The left side is definitely not moisture, not sure what it is, but the middle marking looks like moisture or some sort of 'under the screen' markings.
Perhaps a closer picture as well as one with the LCD off would help us see what it is. But the best thing to do, is to return it and ask for a new one, as this is clearly unacceptable. -
More shots of the broken LCD screen..

It looks like the internal screen, either the LCD or the glass in front of the LCD was damaged. I'm just guessing, but perhaps the layer of protecting coating was either damaged and flaked off(the right side). The left side looks like some sort of damage due to either force of some sort.

Get that taken care of, whatever it takes, you shouldn't have to deal with that on a new notebook. It is unacceptable. As eeekoi13 said, there are plenty of other notebooks options that would work for you and NBR can help you find them. If you can't get that completely replaced just return it. Sorry you have to deal with that, good luck!
Are these dead pixels on the screen?
