I know, it has been said over and over in the stickies, You cannot upgrade your GPU

But I bought this system because it was supposed to be upgradeable according to alienware (they conviently called it "removeable"),
and Ive been having problems with games because of the outdated shader on my current video card.
I spent quite some time browsing sites and although there's not much info to be found,
placing a new GPU seems not completely impossible if you are lucky enough to have a MXM
or if you can get your hands on something called a "proprietary Clevo module"

So I guess Im going to give it a shot anyway.

    spec:
    Motherboard: Clevo D900t
Vid card: ATI Mobility Radeon X800
    CPU: Intel4 HT 3.4GHz
    Mem: 1GB DDR2
Ps: It would probably be wise to also buy some more ram,
but Im not sure about how much the system supports (4 slots, so 4G?)

I read about Clevo not using MXM but some other removable (replaceable?) GPU.
On ebay I found some pricy go7950 GTX cards but Im doubtfull if those are compatible.
(maybe if from a broken notebook also using a Clevo board for example?)

Im pretty dissapointed that this appears to be such a hassle but if buying one of those can solve this,
buying a new comp just to upgrade to a new card could be avoided and stop me from wasting a lot more money.

So... who do I kidnap and torture at Nvidia or Clevo to get my hands on a new GPU that will fit?
Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

Your D900T chassis is very upgradable, actually the D900 series is the mosty upgradable notebook chassis made. You can swap out your old X800 to a 6800Ultra, 7800GTX, 7900GS, 7900GTX, 7950GTX, Quadro FX1600m, Quadro FX2500m, and Quadro FX3500m.

You have a very wide selcetion of gpu's which your system supports. What you do need to realize is that getting one of these MXM graphics card is not easy and it is not cheap. I know with the D900K and T chassis that if your graphics card is replaced with a 7800GTX or faster card, you need to get the larger 220 watt power brick instead of the 180 watt one which you most likely have.

You can call alienware and see if they have any MXM cards for your laptop available, as they are not easy to find. I know RJTECH stocks extra 7950GTX graphics cards, but they usually sell for $575.00

I would stray away from the Quadro series as they are extremely expensive and very hard to get replacements. When my Quadro burned out, Voodoo eat the $1360 cost of a new FX2500M, and they gave me a new one a month and a half later.
