I was just wondering would it be worth it to pay extra for xotic PC to apply artic silver 5 to the CPU+GPU of the ASUS N81VP-D1 I'm thinking of purchasing?
-
-
No, I wouldn't pay extra for that.
-
depends hwo much they charge
if its just a couple dollars, just go for it
anything over that is useless -
They usually charge at least 25 dollars for it. Really not worth it, considering there is paste used already.
-
For 25 dollars, you could buy 3-4 tubes of the stuff (each tube lasts for a few applications), and put it on the laptop yourself. Definitely not worth it.

Anyway, there was a similar thread about this topic at NBR not too long ago that you may be interested in taking a look at. You can read it by clicking the link below:
NBR: Differences between thermal compounds..can someone clear this up?
And just to keep score, to have XoticPC apply AS5 on your notebook, it will set you back $37.00. -
but if I applied my own, wouldnt it void warranty?
-
I think you should just stick with the stock paste unless you find that your temps are too high for your comfort and have already tried undervolting and other means to lower temp first.
-
-
Technically yes, but sometimes Asus makes exceptions to this.
-
Order without Arctic silver 5, there are other options to keep temperatures down like undervolting your CPU or underclock the GPU. Also Arctic Silver is not that great, there are other more newer and efficient TIM that last longer and provide maximum heat transfer through out the years.
Artic Silver?
