I have a Acer Aspire 3000 with a Mobile Amd Sempron 2600 processor. I was wanting to upgrade the processor but I am not sure on what processors would work on the motherboard. I was looking to get the this: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80507&affiliate=yahoo
Would this processor work. Also is there a more powerful one that I might be able to get? Also, would there be any cooling problems with the original heatsink and fan with the new processor?

That Sempron is a desktop CPU and wont work in laptop without modifications to its IHS(intergrated heat spread). Also the desktop cpu's are going to produce a lot of heat which the laptop wont be able to cool.

The Aspire 3000 uses the mobile Sempron, so basically you can use either the Turion ML or the MT series or any higher speed mobile Sempron(25W version)

    Turion MT series...(25Watt TDP)

    or
    Turion ML series...(35Watt TDP)

or if you can find one, a low power mobile Sempron(25W) should also work.

Would the AMD Turion 64 Mobile MT-40 2.2GHz work?

It should. This guy replaced his Sempron with an MT 28. So any higher speed grade of the same series shoould not be a problem.

Ok good, I really need a power boost for my laptop. I'm so use to having my desktop to do all of my programming and photoshop on, but that that I'm at college and only have the Aspire 3000. I'll probably upgrade the memory from 512 to 1 gb sometime soon.

Keep in mind you'll void the warranty. A faster hard drive will help system performance more than the CPU.
