Greetings![]()
Few week's ago i was handed two Acer aspire 7112WSMi's to my sad discovery the CELERON 420 M's installed lack the tech to run windows 7, 8.1 or even 10 (32-bit versions)
this is the hardware specs of both laptops
Processor
Processor family Intel Celeron Mobile
L2 Cache 1 MB
Processor front side bus 533 MHz
Motherboard chipset Intel 940GML Express
Processor Model 420
Processor Clock Speed 1600 MHz
Disk drive
Total Storage Capacity 120 GB
Hard disk rotational speed 5400 rpm
Memory
Internal memory type DDR2-SDRAM
Internal memory 1.5 GB
My question is i have seen people with the same MB chip set upgrade to C2D's if this is indeed the case would a certain C2D work with these?
it means they can be more useful as dual core systems as both laptops are in near enough mint condition and i wouldn't want them to go to waste.
If anyone has upgraded a similar chip set or the same model of laptop please let me know.
thank you

1.5GB DDR2 RAM, performance below P4 from circa 2000 and 120GB 5400 RPM HDD's?
Why continue torturing yourself with this obsolete platform?
Time to pass this on to someone you don't like or, finally, recycle it to end the pain for all.

@Simon Shepard if it has 940GML - then T1350 is your best bet, which is still very anemic single-core CPU, definitely obsolete nowadays; if has 943GML or better chipset, best you can put is T7600(G) - but I suggest T7200 because you can get them for ~$2.5 each. You need to identify the chip to be sure.

@Starlight5 it is a 940GML however i have seen people report that dual core (core 2 duo) work in 940GML motherboards.

@Simon Shepard AFAIK these people confused 943GML with 940GML.
Aspire 7112WSMi CPU upgade Dual core?
