CPU + HDD + RAM are the most common upgradable components. As for the GPU (Gfx card), if it's MXM, you can upgrade. Otherwise, you can't. Try taking it out... Is it soldered on? (I'm not sure as I don't own this model)

You can upgrade the memory to 4gb of Pc5300 or Pc6400 memory. (The Pc6400 will automatically downclock to Pc5300 speeds) PC6400 = 800Mhz effective memory. PC5300 = 667Mhz effective memory

The processor can be upgraded since you have the i965PM chipset.
Your system can support any of the 800Mhz socket P processors up to the T9300, T9500, X9000.

the graphics card s not upgradeable on your laptop. the ATi3650 is a hybrid graphics solution which uses an integrated graphics card and a dedicated graphics card.
I am confused though, are you sure you have an ATi? Acer only offers the 8920G with the nVidia 9650GS or the 9500GS.
Anyways, it doesnt matter, cause none of those graphics cards are upgrdeable.

The harddrive can also be upgraded. Your system supports up to two harddrives. So if you want, you can upgrade to two of the latest 7200rpm 320gb drives, or you can get two ssd's if you so desired.
Your system uses SATA interface harddrives with a height of 9.5mm, so you can buy any harddrive you want except the Hitachi 5k500 and the 500gb fujitsu drive. They are 12.5mm thick, and they will not fit in your system.

Here are the acer specs of your system:

Thank you so much K_tron, that was very helpful.

I dont know either why its the ATI card, i've never seen it on the other models when i've googled.

I guess i void the warranty if i open it up and e.g install a SSD disk though?

The Nvidia 8920's have the MXM-II/III slot and can be upgraded, but i think thats very costly. Don't know about the ATI (didn't think they made one and they're not available in the UK) but it doesnt make sense to have a completely different architecture just for a different graphica card.

Just remember that not all laptops give you easy access to the CPU. You will want to check technical manual to see what is involved. I know with the HP DV2000 you basically have to take everything apart to get to the CPU.

The HDDs and the RAM can be upgraded easily.

CPU and GPU upgrades are also easy but you won't find anything much better than your HD 3650 (GDDR3). The 9650M GS is literally the same in performance, and is hard to come by. If you've got the money, you can look for a cheap 8800M/9800M MXM-III and flash the Acer BIOS onto it, and it just might work. GPU upgrades are rare, mainly due to the high cost !!

CPU --> X9000 is the limit, but the overclocking options won't show up in the BIOS.

Thanks for the suggestions. The harddrive, if i want to get another one, it should be a 2.5" right?
