I think any product would work as long as it is 200pin pc5300 667mhz SoDimms. Just search on newegg.com for laptop ram. They have alot of good deals, but just a word of caution, i think your laptop only supports up to 2gb of ram.

This link says it supports up to 4GB's of RAM of course still the 3.0 to 3.5 limitation w/32bit OS.

And then there's the 3GB limit of the Napa platform.

Please explain as there are 3 945 express chipsets the 945GM; 945GMS and the 945PM. Intel says 945GM and 945PM both support 4GB's the 945GMS supports 2GB. Link. So what am I missing? That 3GB sounds like the whole 32bit OS issue. Napa uses the 945 chipset I do not see it specified as to which one? Also why do the 965's say this "2 SO-DIMMs / up to 4GB Max System Memory @ 533 MHz".

So if I went with 1 2gb stick and 1 1GB stick I should be good? Or maybe I'll just buy one 2gb stick and leave the 512 in.

Run CPU-Z and see what chipset you have, if you have the 945GMS the max you can run according to Intel is 2GB's. If you have the 945GM or 945PM you should be able to use between 3GB and 3.5GB so if you put in 4GB you will get more and all you can see will be "true" Dual Channel.

    I think running 2GB +1GB should work well vs 2GB +512MB

If you have 945GMS 2GB is the max so 2X1GB is your best option.

First of all, thanks for all the help.

I ran CPU-Z and it says I have the i945PM chipset. I checked newegg and am thinking about going with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16820145172

If I just get that and then use one of my current sticks of 512, would that extremely make a diference compared to one 2GB stick and one 1GB stick? I would rather save a little money and atleast put one of my 512 sticks to use.

Yes you can buy 2GB stick and use a 512MB stick 1GB total will run in "true" daul channel (128bit bus)1.5GB will run single channel (64bit bus). Will that matter? Not really, most people on this sight say Dual channel over rated, I disagree but you should be fine 2GB+512MB.

    Yes that RAM looks good.

Dual channel is overrated on a C2D. The performance difference will be minimal. and you will have dual channel the first 512 MB, then it will be single channel.

I think I read somewhere that is has to do with the fact that 945 express is made for both 32 bit and 64 bit cpus (don't quote me on that though). I do know that there are those who have upgraded to 4 GB ram with a 64 bit OS on 945PM, but still hasn't seen more than 3GB ram.

    Yes, that ram is good.

I'm also planning to go with swapping out one of my 512mb sticks and buying a 2gb stick to make a total of 2.5gb.

I've one last reservation, though. SIW and Everest suggest that 'maximum memory module size' is 1gb. Why is this so? Will I run into problems eg. stability, if I just put in a 2gb stick in?

Saw this thread and wondered if you were successful in loading more than two gigs of ram in you A8JP. When I use the Intel Chiputil utility, it identifies the chipset as 945GM/GMS/940GML while CPUZ shows i945PM. Thanks.

i have a i945pm in my dell e1505 and 2gb is the memory limit.
The maximum memory value depends on the bios of the system, so it could be 2 or 4gb. There is only two ways to find out
    1) send a PM to the guy in this thread who has the same laptop, and ask him if he has ever had it run with 4gb of memory installed,
    or
    2) you take a plunge and buy a 2 x 2gb memory kit and try it yourself.

I know on my E1505, when I install 4gb of memory it does not boot, but it works fine with a 2x 1gb configuration
