    Hi,

Today when I ripped a DVD I noticed that the DVD in the G2S wouldn't give me more than 3800kb/sec - like a 4x DVD drive. My desktop DVD reader gave me 10500kb on the same DVD. So now I'm thinking about replacing the DVD in the laptop.

    1. Is it possible? Should be!
    2. Where do I buy an internal laptop drive? Ebay only?
    3. Is 8x DVD maximum for Laptops? (I don't use the battery, I see it as a moveable workstation).

    Ideas?

It's probably a burn speed restriction with the Program you are using, especially if it is a trial version, or because you are using a Free download Version that has limited speed and features. What program are you using?

Also, you may not have installed the drivers, or you may not have installed them properly.

I seriously doubt it is a hardware problem. But if it is a hardware problem, you could buy a spare optical drive from ASUS customer support perhaps. eBay would be the last place I look. I wouldn't buy a used Optical Drive.

    Hi,

I didn't express myself clearly - It was the READ speed that was bad. Not writing speed. I have reinstalled my pooter a couple of times and when doing that also noted that the CD/DVD drive is kind of slow.

Isn't strange that ASUS doesn't say the technical specs of the drive? It just says "optical drive with lightscribe" - no speeds or brand(guess it is a LG).

ps. There are lots of computer stores on ebay that sells brand new stuff for a good price ds.

Which model of burner do you have at the moment (Device Manager will give you the model number)?

Notebook burners have a maximum read speed of 8X but may be slower depending on which part of the disc you are reading.
