Hi there, im kinda new to this forum and am getting a ASUS G50vt this weekend. i know it comes stock standard wth a 4gig DDR2 667mhz ram. was wondering if this could be upgraded aftermarket e.g x2 4 gig Slots?

And the CPU is a T8600 intel duo core. can that be replaced as well?

If these are the spec's of your machine:

    See:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - ASUS - ASUS G50Vt

And the chipset is PM45 as indicated:

    See:
    Mobile Intel® PM45 Express Chipset

Then the chipset does support 8GB RAM maximum.

However, this will also depend on support from the BIOS and other possible limitations placed on that particular model.

The easiest thing to do is simply try 2x4GB sticks and see if it boots up and performs normally (on a 64bit O/S, of course).

    Good luck.

As Tiller stated, your best bet is just to try a retailer/reseller that is selling 1 x 4 GB stick and see if your machine posts. As I found out with my PM965 in my Vostro, it unofficially supports 8 GB RAM but my model did not take it due to a BIOS limitation. Or you could request to have this thread move to the ASUS section you might get more responses there.

Hi there, i got a asus G50vt recently the one in blue. and was wondering when i saw it online a while ago it was Orange but the one my parents purchased was blue not the actual "G50v". Just wondering which one is actually better cause i've been doing some reading. it appears to be better.

Also it comes with 667MHZ Ram speed 2x 2GIG RAM slots.
which is basically very slow nowdays....

Intel Website with chispet specifications >>

    Mobile Intel® PM45 Express Chipset

It indicates Max Memory ==> 8 GB
    It also says FSB Speed 667MHz / 800MHz / 1066MHz

Does this mean i can upgrade to 8GB of DDR2 RAM 1066MHZ
    or 8GB of 667
    or 8GB of 800
    Or 8GB of 1066 MHZ

As for the CPU is it possible to upgrade the intel chispet as well? :D
I was looking at this one

    Intel® Core™2 Extreme quad-core mobile processor (QX9300)

    Or

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9900 (6M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

Will these above cpu's be able to run on my laptop if i decide to upgrade?

Im a eager beaver! let them coomments RUN! :D

Right what we were saying is though the PM45 chipset supports 8 GB RAM, not all BIOS do will support 8 GB RAM.

PM45 will support all 1066 Core 2 Duo and some Core 2 Quad (again limited by your BIOS). Unless you do a custom upgrade to your G50VT I don't recommend a Core 2 Extreme, they already output alot of heat.

When I had a G50vt, I read a lot online about 8GB's, and most people said it worked.

Just out of curiosity, why are you going to be buying a new laptop this weekend, only to rip it apart and upgrade a bunch of components? Why not just buy a laptop with the power that you're looking for?

And P.S. - unless you are going to be doing CPU-based video encoding, or running RAM-intensive applications like databases or virtual machines, upgrading your CPU and RAM will not make a difference in application or gaming performance. If you want application performance, get an SSD. If you want gaming performance, you'll need a more powerful GPU. Upgrading CPU and RAM will not help.

GM45 could be 8GB max but I would say 4G is the actual max. to save space, manufacturers usually offer you ONLY 2 memory slots. So 2Gx2=4GB. I don't think you'll see any 4GB single stick ddr2.. memory manufacturers moved on to DDR3 already. Goodluck.

I just upgraded to 6GB of RAM on this machine. I've read from several people who confirmed it can support the full 8GB a while ago.

Its quite a messed up story, my parents actually bought this laptop rarly in the beginning of the year and lied to me and say they didn't buy it, cause I wasn't home, was at college. Only got it now. So just wondering will this laptop actually efficient, I'm a gamer but not intensive graphics e.g. Crysis etc I'm a dota /wow/ sc2 player.
