Ok, not to beat a dead horse because I know this has been covered before, and I've done a lot of researching on the subject. I have an Asus notebook model G51vx, motherboard G60vx. I did not buy the laptop from best buy I received it straight from ASUS. These are the specs I could find on my motherboard
    Manufacturer: Pegatron Corp.
    Model: G60vx 1.0
    Chipset: Intel PM45 Rev. 07
    Southbridge: Intel 8280 1IM (ICH9-M)

    BIOS
    American Megatrends
    Ver. 202

    NV3MB1200 A01 G60vx (0202A)

This is absolutely everything I could find on my motherboard, so...
Would a quad core work with this motherboard? It had the option of coming with the Q9000, so would and core 2 quad work such as the Q9000, Q9100, or QX9300?? This is what I really want to upgrade to, but if I can't, would the X9300 work? Would any of these show improvement over my current P7350 for gaming? Once again, sorry for bringing up a topic that seems to have been covered, but I just couldn't find a conclusive answer.

What do you use your computer for?

If you use it for gaming, a fast dual core is best.

Also since the quads put out a lot more heat, you may run into overheating problems.

Also, do you have the Asus G50vx-x5?

You need to give us the exact model e.g: Asus G50Vx-xx.

Literally, the only thing that it says anywhere on my computer is the G51vx for the model, there is no where in which numbers come after that.

Only G51VX that run quads was the A1 (came with Q9000), but all best buy version didn't, not knowing which one you have is hard to tell.

    +1, Thank You.

@Starbuck2472: As we said in your other thread on the same topic, the quad isn't going to work.

Ok, well thanks all! I'm looking to buy the X9100 then, I mainly use my laptop for gaming anyways. Anyone know of some X9100 CPUs for sale?

The X9100 runs much hotter than the T9900, and the clock speed is the same.

As it turns out though, the X9100 is actually cheaper than the T9900 haha

Yeah, but as I said it runs a bit hotter, and is useless, unless you want to overclock it. But, if you overclock it, it will put out more heat, requiring a cooling pad and undervolt.

Best just to get the T9800 or T9900.

I posted that last one before I saw your comment Joker, I am just thinking in most cases I have looked at the X9100 is like 40-60 $ cheaper than the T9900, plus with the X9100 I would have the potential to overclock if I looked into some cooling options

To be honest, I'd go for a slower C2D like the T9800, before I bought an Extreme processor. The CPU in your laptop has a 25 watt TDP, the X9100 has a 45 watt TPD, that like over a 75% increase. The T9800(and T9900) are 35 watt chips, kinda a balance between speed and heat. My guess is that if you don't overclock, you wont be able to notice any difference.

I've owned a Asus G50Vt, same as yours, and I upgraded the CPU to a P8700. Make sure you use good thermal paste on the new CPU, I used Antec formula 5 and it dropped my temps by 8C.

I have a G51VX too, what do you guys think about the E8435? I found it for $90,00 on Ebay D: ...

My P7350 overclocked at 2.45GHz reaches 66C max.

    Thanks.

Either should be close in performance, another that might be close, is the P9700, i tried to get one when i had my G51VX, but was either too expensive or out of stock.... but maybe things have change since.

E8435 is an Apple specific CPU, these have much higher TDP than regular Core2Duo CPUs. According to Wikipedia, the E8435 has TDP of 55W  .

Look at the sticker on the bottom (front left corner) that has the model number as the first line (should have lines of text with a barcode in the middle). What does it say on the line below the barcode?

If it does not have -A1, no quad for you.
