Hi guys sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I couldn't find one relevant.

I have a G73jh. The HDD has been playing up for some time, about 3 months. I'd be playing a in windowed mode and everything would freeze but the cursor moved, rebooting gave you a selecta boot device message. A little punch and it would start working again.

Anyway I guess the punching took its toll, the cylinder heads seized. But I'm now worried I've damage the DVD drive.

You should know I've taken the HDD out, I've ordered a new SSD. Isn't here yet.

When I boot with windows DVDs it asked to insert bootable media. I've set the priority to DVD drive etc.

I get a black screen with "Reboot and select a proper boot Device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

At this point I've tried pressing a key. Nothing but repeats of the message above but, this might be key, it attempts to read the DVD for a while I presume since it takes 30secs or so to display the error gain.

I also tried putting Unbuntu in a DVD AND an external HDD but if I boot off the drive I get a flashing cursor in the top left of the black screen only.

    Any ideas?
