    Hello there,

I have an asus k550jk (similar to x550) and I tried to upgrade the screen from the very bad 1366 TN matte to a FHD IPS glossy. My asus screen model is LP156WHB TLB1, my stock LVDS cable model is X550JD 1A

Needless to say, the new screen (an LP156WF4 SLC1), once replaced and attached to the motherboard only showed black. It powers up, but it only shows backlight (no half-screen tearing stuff, which is strange, considering most online forums discussions on LVDS and FHD LVDS cables).

    pic related:

After a bit of research on panelook, turns out I have to get a dual channel, 6-bit FHD cable LVDS and the goddamn thing is nearly impossible to find BECAUSE the cable must have the same connector on each end (mobo and screen).

on the pic: the original 40pin LVDS cable, motherboard-side

here: the connector on the (new) screen end.

"Why didn't you buy a notebook with a good screen from the start"ers, please abstain from posting. "See if there's a FHD screen option from the asus manufacturer"ers, please abstain from posting.

What cable model do I have to buy? It must be a LVDS 40 pin 2 channel, 6 bit, are there any in existence?. Also, would it be possible to create a cable through some soldering work?

Here's my stock screen on panelook:

Here's the newly bought model on panelook:
    http://www.panelook.com/go.php?panel_part_number=LP156WF4-SLC1

    the main differences are:
°stock: flat type, WLED lamp type, LVDS 1ch - 6bit
    °new screen: slim type, 6-string WLED lamp type, LVDS 2ch - 6bit

From what I understand, cables like this:

    http://kenode.com/2ch-6bit-lvds-cable-for-led-panels-ipex-40pin-0-5mm-pitch.html

    or this:

    http://www.nyplatform.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1126

could not work because my motherboard has the same connector and a full hd requires a double channel. Am I right?

    My fellow italian friend!

I am trying to do the same mod, but on a Lenovo z580 ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...01-v4-dual-channel-40-pin-cable.671690/page-6). Things we have in common? Both found really interesting this beautiful IPS full hd panel LP156WF4 SLC1 , and both got a crappy single channel lvds cable from our 2012's PCs. Also both came up with this idea in february/march 2016.
So, sorry for hijacking your thread (which wasn't that successful BTW) , but I may help adding my findings on the topic:

1- there is another IPS LCD which is single channel and affordable: LP156WHA-SLL1
    http://it.aliexpress.com/item/15-6-...SLL1-SL-L1-LCD-suit-for-E520/32346281201.html
    http://www.1egg.de/laptop-ledipsschirm-fur-fahrwerk-lp156whasll1-1366-768-156-p-40350.html

2- you can keep on trying with the one you already purchased, but with a compatible dual channel full hd lvds cable such as the following one N53JN-1A (PAY ATTENTION THERE ARE TWO VARIANTS , YOU'D NEED THE FULL HD ONE 14G22101600V )
    http://www.asusparts.eu/Asus-14G22101600V
    http://www.ebay.it/itm/Cavo-Flat-LCD-ASUS-N53JN-N53-FULL-HD-/281431653531

Maybe this cable does not come with the webcam connector, but who cares! I mean, TN 1366x768 vs IPS 1920x1080 NO WAY! The latter wins hands down, worth a try ;-)

Please continue posting your progress if you do any, since I think there would be many people affected (by those awful stock TN panels).

Hi, Ganppoman! I read your posts on replacing the z580 screen and actually ordered the IPS screen from http://www.1egg.de/laptop-ledipsschirm-fur-fahrwerk-lp156whasll1-1366-768-156-p-40350.html
Do you have any experience with them? Five days after my purchase, they sent out an email saying my item was delivered. Funny thing is I never got it. I made several attempts to reach them but none was replied. The support email address provided didn't work. Make me wonder if the are legit.
