So I have a K55nn which comes with the 768p screen. I know, form replacement screen specs, that it is 40 pin. Would a 900p or a 1080p screen work? Also what do you guys think is the chance the richland processors would be plug n play?
thanks

I have an Asus X53E with the boring 1366x768 display. I would love to know if I can drop in a 1920x1080 display.
How interchangeable are 15.6 panels (mechanically and electrically)?
Is it likely that the BIOS won't support 1920x1080? -

As for your Richland APU question, these new APUs will be 99% plug and play with existing Trinity laptops. Please visit this thread for more information on this topic and even a recent post about a Chinese MSI GX60 with an A10-4600M that was upgraded to the A10-5750M successfully. If i remember right, AMD even demoed an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with a Richland A10-5750M that was upgraded from an Trinity A10 at the recently passed MWC.

Also curious since theres not chance of upgrading res due to teh connector used, is it possible to buy a 1366x768 touch screen?
-
I can make up possible reasons but I have no actual knowledge to base this on
- BIOS doesn't have appropriate video settings for other resolutions
- BIOS doesn't bother to query the panel to discover its resolution etc. because it knows the answer
- insufficient power for replacement panel / backlight (as suggested by ProStar Computer)
- some aspect of the signals to the panel are not generic
- mechanical: panel thickness, exact dimensions, mounting holes, etc. may differ (as suggested by ProStar Computer)

You need to know if LCD is single or dual channel LVDS or eDP. You will only really be able to tell that by checking the connector.
