I purchased Asus n56vz-ds71 and plans to upgrade the hard drive. I want to add 2nd SSD on this laptop and I can get some help here I looked at my options and best way is to remove DVD rom and add either HDD or SSD with caddy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-SATA-2 [...] 1024733380 Caddy says SATA II.

My questions are if I get the either SSD-SATA II or III, should I put it in the main hard drive space and put the stock HDD to extra bay on caddy or leave the HDD as it is and just add the SSD in extra bay?

And should I get a SATA II or III for a SSD? Reason I'm asking this because caddy says support SATA II but not sure about III.

If there is better setup or concern I'm glad to hear it.

Any opinions will help me thank you guys!

You're getting an SSD for performance - getting a SATA2 SSD for an IB based system is going the wrong way.

Get a good SATA3 SSD (256GB: Crucial M4, Intel 520, Sandisk Extreme or 512GB; Crucial M4) and do a clean install of the O/S and programs/drivers. Move your HDD to the caddy or simply get an external USB3.0 enclosure for it if you will be using your optical drive too.

I'm surprised that this notebook doesn't have an mSATA connector? That would have been my first choice (along with an M4 256GB mSATA SSD).

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. You are absolutely right about 2nd SSD as for the performance. But I also want to keep the 750GB for the memory.

I'm really new at this additional Hard drive on the laptop. If I put the SSD on main drive space and HDD on caddy, how should I setup the file locations etc for good performance. Obviously I'm doing this for the faster response from the hard drive but pretty clueless right now. :/
