    Hi.
I'm a big fan of ZenBooks, had a UX32A since the release and just upgraded. 1-2 weeks ago, I got my brand new UX32LN. It's been working like a charm since I got it, but today something happened. I just opened the lid like I use to do, but after aprox 5 minutes, some fan started to run. I was just surfin in some forums so no heavy tasks there. I rebooted and it seemed fine at first, but after a couple of minutes same thing happened. I shut the computer down for 30 minutes so it really should cool off, did'nt help.

HWMonitor says that it's the CPU fan that runs on max (25500rpm) and I have no idea how to stop it. Nothing in my computer is over 104F. The things I tried so far:
    Rebooted computer.
    Shut it down.
    With/without powercord.
    Resetting BIOS.
    No visible dust anywhere.

    Printscreen of HWMonitor: http://imgi.se/image.php?di=WP9V

    Please help me. :(

First of all, that fan doesn't run @ 25K rpm, that'd be impossible. Then, you could of course reinstall chipset drivers, but it is more likely you have installed some software resulting in the described situation.

Yea but as I said, it's what HWMonitor says. :( And no, I have'nt installed anything recently. Closed the lid when I went to bed last night, opened it today. Did'nt do anything unusual. Could you be more specific in what driver I should reinstall?

podie, let's try the easy way. Also, consider turning your laptop off for the night, instead of sleep/hibernation. After that is done, please clarify whether (when idling/non-resourse-demanding usage) the fan is running on max rpm most of the time, or it just does it occasionally for short periods of time? I'd suggest using speedfan for temp monitoring. Since there may be thousands possible causes, I would also recommend you to disconnect it from Internet and monitor its behaviour for a day or so.

    podie,

If you're running Windows 8 or 8.1 this may be the Automatic Maintenance that is run daily by the O/S.

I would suggest instead of turning off your computer, disable all sleep and hibernation timers and leave the computer on overnight (or for a long duration during the day if that works better right now). This will allow Windows to let the maintenance to run (fully) and the next time it runs, it shouldn't be for such a long time.

I would recommend that you leave the computer on, but idle for at least a couple of times a week (a period of about 2 to 4 hours seems to be enough) so that Automatic Maintenance runs as it needs to.

I may be off base here, but this is what jumped out for me.

    Good luck.

Thank you for your answers. The fan went down by itself a couple of hours later. Now it's on max again and I have'nt done anything unusual this time eather..Contacted Asus support, and they asked me to restore the computer to factory settings and clean the SSD. So I did, and the fan was on max the entire process and still is, so it's a hardware issue. I will send it to Asus and have it fixed.

Also, tried fan controller software but did'nt work. :/

Update if anyone else has the same problem:

My problem did'nt stop, it just got worse so I sent it to Asus. Got it back yesterday, and they changed CPU and GPU fans. It worked fine until 1 hour ago, then it started again. Really frustrating, but what's the odds that even the new fans are broken?! I've started to wonder if it's normal, but it is really loud...Have to call Asus again tomorrow.. :(
