    Hi,

By tripping over the cord I have damaged the dc power plug, I would like to replace it but I wonder if I just can use any dc plug that fits or if there are some special things to account for. (like a third wire that tells the notebook if it´s a orginal charger)

The power adapter is an adp-90sb and the computer is an Asus F3Ka.

I think a universal charger would be fine.

I have never heard of a wire that tells if the charger is original or not.
Though there could be a third ground wire, which shouldn't really make a difference.

I was thing more of just replacing the plug since the charger is still working. I believe it´s dell chargers that have a third wire for communication with the machine.

I´m just worrying that I won´t charge my battery if I replace the plug with a generic one.

The Asus I had a few years back had a very common power plug. I also used a universal PSU when suggests there is nothing special.

Go ahead and get a replacement plug (I assume you have access to a soldering iron and multimeter - the centre contact is most likely +).

If the power cable was plugged into the computer when you tripped over the wire then there is also the possibility that you have damaged the socket, which is much more difficult to fix.

Your right there is a possibility the socket on the motherboard took a hit as well, let just hope that didn't happen. bwt, does any one know where one can find service manuals for Asus notebooks, just in case the socket did in fact take a hit.

See this thread in the Asus forum. I see there is a link to an F3Ka guide.
