I own an Asus G71GX-A2 laptop with Windows 7 64-bit. I have been encountering a strange issue with my keyboard lately.![]()

When holding down a key such as "W" in notepad for instance, it will repeat the letter for a short while, then as if I'd lifted my finger, it will stop for a moment, and then continue repeating W. If this sounds too vague, allow me to provide a more concrete example.
When playing a game that requires the "W" key to be suppressed to move forward (it's worth noting this problem occurs with other keys as well) eventually the character will stop moving, even though I still have my finger on the "W" key. This will then require me to lift my finger and re-press the key.
If this problem doesn't sound very severe, consider that it's been occurring more and more frequently as of late, seriously interfering with whatever game I am playing.
Additionally, it's worth mentioning that when I plug in my wireless Logitech keyboard to the laptop, the problem is nonexistent when using it for the same functions. No third-party drivers installed or anything.
Does anyone have insight into how I might go about
resolving this issue? I apologize if my explanation is a tad wordy, but I must include every detail I feel is relevant so that I may effectively find an answer.![]()
Thank you for your time.

If Num Lock is off, turn it on, and vice versa. I know that makes no sense, but my old Dell laptop had the exact same problem, and turning Num Lock on kept it from ever happening again. *Shrug*
-
Sounds like it could be related to the common double keystroke problem on the G71GX...
-
Tried the numlock solution, but no dice. What exactly was the problem you were encountering? :-\
-
also CZX58, I looked into the double keystroke problem you mentioned, but my symptoms don't seem to match up. Not sure if there's a correlation there or not.
-
hi, you can do one thing download key logger for a time but remember to uninstall it because it is a "VIRUS" if you are able to see the missing keystrokes their then it's a software problem if not then i think hardware problem, i did it because i was also facing the same problem.
BUT REMEMBER IT IS A VIRUS you have to delete it asap when you are done.
i m sorry if i were not supposed to say the above mentioned, my intention is not bad. -
@OP: have you ever spilled any liquids on the computer? -
no, never spilled anything, at least nothing I can recall. It's a fairly new unit, just got it a little over a month ago and have taken excellent care of it.
not sure if it's hardware related though, it could very possibly be software related. -

Before dismantling the computer to reseat the keyboard cable (good idea):
Shut down Windows normally. Unplug the computer from the wall. Take out the battery and leave it out for at least half an hour.
Before you put the battery back in or plug in the power; press every single button on the computer's keyboard, the power button, wifi on/off switch and any other button your notebook has. The idea is to dissipate any stored charge (static) that may be present on the system.
When you've done that, boot up and see if it has solved anything.
Good luck. -
You might find this usesful

I tried your possible solution and unfortunately, not only did it not work but it appears to have made the problem even more frequent. (LOL)
It's okay, though... I may try removing the keyboard as so many people have suggested, my only concern is voiding the warranty in the process. -

If I had warranty, I would be using it.
Cheers! -
it shouldn't void ur warranty... just make sure u don't reseat the keyboard wrongly or break the keyboard cable or something... but if u had warranty , use it!
