I know that the Turion II is faster, but is the difference significant? Also, what about the difference in terms of power consumption, temperature etc?

I would usually go for Turion, but the Athlon setup suits my needs better (I'm just being picky really) and it's cheaper. So, would getting the Turion laptop instead be worth it?

    AMD's hierarchy is

    Phenom
    Turion
    Athlon

The Turion series is faster, more efficient, and cooler than the Athlon series (usually at least)

I'd say the Turions are just as hot/cool as the Athlons, the only difference being that the Turions usually have more cache and are faster. However, you'd have to be comparing the same series of processors. Could you post a link to said laptop?

I know that in the past Turions have been much more efficient and cooler, but is this the case for the Turion IIs (vs Athlon II)? It would be good if you could present some proof, or confirm that you've had personal experience.

    @Changturkey
According to AMD, Athlons have the same amount of cache as Turions.

I prefer the Athlon setup, as its RAM is 4GB (vs 3GB) and the hard drive is only 160GB (I don't need any more).

I don't know about the newer ones, to be honest. I am just speaking of past experience with Turion and Athlon processors

usually the turrion is better and newer than athlon... i wouldn't get athlon.. turrions are already quite crap compared to intel so athlons will be worse..

obviously he's not looking to game hardcore, so for his purposes neither processors are crap if they're in the right budget

for general use, you will notice no real performance differences between those 2 laptops in terms of surfing, office use, video play back or gaming.

I would opt for the Turion model, as it has twice the HD size and HDMI which is handy if you want to watch a movie on a big screen. Even if it has 3gb vs. 4gb, that's almost negligible.

Thanks JimGoose, but I'm pretty sure it's the Athlon laptop that has HDMI. I would rather have 160GB than 320Gb, knowing that I didn't pay money for useless space.

If there isn't much of a difference, and athlons do not wear out any faster than turions, I guess I'll get the athlon model.

Are you sure the Compaq version of that laptop has HDMI? I know the HP version does, but they cut features out from the Compaq models to save money.

It's an "exclusive" product, so I guess that's why.

HDMI is a chipset feature not really a Processor feature.
