I don't know much about processors, so help me out here.

    Intel Celeron U3600: 1,20 ghz

    Intel Atom N570: 1,66 ghz

Is the Celeron overall better, despite the Atom having a higher clock speed?

If it matters, I believe both are dual-core CPUs.

The U3600 has a much higher benchmark. Basically, you're comparing a "subnotebook" CPU against a "netbook" CPU.

That Celeron is an Arrandale CPU. Basically it is in the same family of CPUs as the first generation mobile Core i3/i5/i7. It has 2MB cache (others have up to 4MB), is the lowest wattage at 18W and is a dual core.

You may want to compare these links:

    See
    Intel® Celeron® Processor U3600 (2M Cache, 1.20 GHz))

    See:
    Intel® Atom? Processor N570 (1M Cache, 1.66 GHz))

    See:

    See:
    PassMark - Intel Atom N570 @ 1.66GHz - Price performance comparison

Basically, these cpu's would be off my radar - but it is interesting to note that:

The Celeron's graphics subsystem has 1M more transistors than the whole package that the Atom has (the cpu section has 382M transistors by itself - the Atom has 176M transistors total).

The Atom's graphic clock is 200MHz and the Celeron's is 166MHz (base) and can turbo up to 500MHz.

Celeron has Dual Channel memory support vs. single channel (important with integrated graphics).

While both are dual core, as stated, only the Atom can handle 4 threads due to Hyper-Threading.

Also interesting to me was that the Celeron is 32nm lithography - but the graphics subsystem is 45nm lith.

I know you already got your answer(s), but hope this additional info was useful too.
