This started since the installation of the new HDD and reinstall of the OS-Vista.
When Vista 'booted for the first time' there was no sound... I went to Control Panel/sound and it said there was a problem with the device. It told me to try and disable the audio enhncements and it worked.

I had audio for a while, until I installed skype. Durning an attempt to call someone, skype prevented the call and said there was a problem with the microphones (which were built in)

"Alll sound recorder" confirmed that was the case, it did not record anything.

I attempted to shut down the enhancements for the mikes too, but it said that the devices were incompatible with the settings, so I left them alone.

So I decided: Reinstall the Drivers. The mikes were part of the sound system (Headphone/speaker/microphone) of Conexant High Definition Audio. So I went to device manager and completely uninstalled the drivers. Before I could even get to the installer of the original drivers, the taskbar popped up with a message saying it was installing the drivers already...

I heard popping sounds from the speakers, and then it was done. Drivers were re-installed. On a side note, I also had the manual installer install drivers too, but later found out that that's the installer the system used to re-install.

In the info-bar at the bottom right corner, the audio icon had a big "X" on it, and when I opened the volume mixer, it said that "no audio device is installed." The controls for the speakers (volume and mute) all displayed that the audio was not muted, and even if I did click mute, the light would remain blue (unmuted) meaning the device was still not recognized.

This does not work with headphones either...

As of now, I will attempt a system restore, and if still not working, I will need clear instructions on how to do this:
    1. I have two drives on my new HDD: C:\ (~142GB)& D:\ (~7GB)
    2. I need to give D:\ 80GB from C:\, so I can transfer my data there instead of on CD's and flash drives. and then format C:\ and re-install the OS.
    3. And then give back the 80GB to C:\.
