Unfortunately I damaged the sound jack on my Gateway 6860FX gaming laptop. I'm not using the slot on the side of my laptop (I think it's called a PCMIA slot?), and I as wondering if maybe I should buy a soundcard to put in there. Does anyone know anything about these types of sound cards? It would be nice for it to be a better sound card then the one integrated in my laptop, because with my current headphones (which are pretty nice) I can hear noise and stuff coming from the soundcard.

Any suggestions? My price range is pretty low, under $100.

    Thanks for the advice :)

can't speak to pcmcia cards, but there are a few very very good usb sound dongles available. The ones from Turtle Beach (which I use) all do 5.1/7.1 surround, can feed headphones directly, and can pump that real surround sound (not simulated) through an optical spdif cable.

Cost is around $30-, good stuff.
