Gidday guys
After downloading and installing a heap of Microsoft updates including IE8, I suddenly started getting a message "No file association etc" whenever I plugged in a USB drive. Even from "My Computer" I couldn't open my thumb drives (they work fine in my desktop) In the end I took it to my local computer shop who managed to get rid of the File association message, and now I can open the drives from My Computer, but still don't have Autoplay. Anybody got any ideas? I tried uninstalling the updates but that didn't solve the problem, and whatever happened also corrupted my restore points, so I can't just roll back.
I miss Autoplay!
I have Vista Business 32

Autoplay works differently between Vista and XP....seeing as how you haven't bothered to tell us which one you have, it makes it difficult to make a suggestion.
If VISTA, go to CONTROL PANEL > AUTOPLAY and select RESET ALL DEFAULTS
If XP, the easiest way is to download and run the autoplay repair wizard

Nope, didn't work. Anyone?

I would also like to know the answer
The only thing that ever works for me is this
formatting my SD card in my camera and than sticking it into the SD slot. Every time it comes up with the autoplay screen. When that appears I scroll down and unclick the "always do this option"
it seems to work for a few times, but than it goes away.

OK, this is what I found, that fixed my problem:
Ensure that correct NoDriveTypeAutoRun and/or NoDriveAutoRun policy value is set
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry key is used by Group Policy to configure whether to disable the Autoplay feature on all drives of the type specified. To check this setting, run Registry Editor (regedit), and navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
The best bet is to set NoDriveTypeAutoRun to default value as set by Windows Vista, which is 0×00000091 (hexadecimal) or 145 (decimal). "
Hit Save, restart your machine and hopefully, if it succeeds as mine did, you will be grinning. -
wetteck,
in response to your deleted post (and mine)
I was just trying to playfully tease you into giving some important information needed to solve your problem. I am sorry you were so offended. No harm was intended.
I am happy you resolved your problem
Autoplay gone?
