What has been the average lifespan of the backlight tubes before they start to yellow on laptop/desktop LCD's. I have seen it on some laptops sooner than others, and curious if my 4 year warranty might fall in the timespan of when it might happen.

LCD's have a limited lifespan in terms of hours used I believe...
I don't recall the exact amount, but I would think the LCD is the last thing to die in a notebook. 5+ years of regular usage maybe? -

Well, die is one thing, I am talking yellowing of the cathodes used to illuminate it. LCD's last well over 50-75k hours.

Well, I have a thinkpad 600E which is 6.5 yrs old, but the screen is only about 4 years old. No noticeable color shifts.

um... are you confused with CRTS? LCDs do not colour shift
Some of my Schools new CRTs are going yellow already (2 years old)
I have a 6 year old LCD in my house that is used constantly everyday for work purposes and some gaming. No colour shift at all. It doesn't happen for LCD screens -

I have seen yellowed whites on older LCD's all over the place. It just "happens" to the cold cathodes over time as they age. This isn't a LCD issue, as replacing the backlights makes it all go peachy again.
Here are 2 example pictures showing what I am refering to.Attached Files:

The screen on my old Toshiba 5005 was just as bright and clear as the day I got it, and was 3.5 years old when I got rid of it.
