Avermedia A312 TV tuner.

i purchased a mini pci-e card for my asus c90s laptop recently and received it today. it was shipped with windows vista drivers, but no xp drivers. the seller said xp was supported, the main site said it is also, yet i cannot find the required drivers anywhere on the web...can anyone help me?

avermedia's website doesnt seem to have any listed drivers, you may want to send them an email to see if they have a driver they can email you.

It's OEM only supply to notebook manufcaturers, basically find a laptop that has an internal DVB-T card and go to the support site and get drivers for it eg.. some Toshiba's have that hard, maybe some HP's to

 

geh...well apparently, the A301 drivers are compatible with it. now that it's installed. i don't have an application to use it...or any antenna or connectors...maybe i should have though this through...anyone has it working under vista? if so, what software works with it?
anyways, i managed to toy around with media player classic and make it work, but all i get on tv and radio is snow....

Is it a chance that you will send me the picture of that A312 card? or tell me what are the components used on that card (tuner,radio,etc. - Manufacturer and model number). I would like to run that card under Linux but I don't know which kernel driver to use

 

you mean like show you a picture of the card itself? i don't really mind. as soon as i get enough posts to do so i'll do it.

well, i took pictures of the card but was unable to make a decent one. stupid camera has no focus option, so it's impossible to get a good close up.

i can still post the ones i took, but you won't be able to read anything else than Avermedia on it.

however i finally managed to get it to work with windows xp, using the A-301 drivers, which were compatible with it. i used the trial version of cyberlink powercinema 5 as software to use it. the device works. i made a coaxial connector using an old gps antenna and an old PlayStation rf connector. i get cable, hi def tv, and fm radio. i can plug in with another adapter an rca plug for most console systems...all this works relatively well, besides 1 major problem. i get delays. huge 3 seconds delay on every signal. meaning i can't play video games. i tried using amcap to get a faster signal but it's still delayed by a good 1.5 seconds. if your aim is to listen to radio, i guess there's not a real issue with it. if it's for tv, you'll miss frames and get audio/video sync problems. hd tv has some major frame rate issues whenever you choose anything above mono sound. video games are downright unplayable like this. and of course, you'll need to have a lot of speed available because at the default 2.4Ghz of my c90s i couldn't get any decent frame rates. i had to overclock to 2.93 to make it work decently.

bottom line? avoid that thing like the plague. i don't know what the point of getting delays in a tv tuner is, but it's really annoying. i'm going to keep browsing for another kind of tv tuner. let's hope i find something decent.

now i presume none of these info are what you wanted. you wanted to know what chips were under the heat sink. so i opened it up and the main chip under the heat sink/thermal pad read as follows:

and that's pretty much it. if you can find a way to solve my problem and maybe save me a few bucks on some other tv tuner I'd appreciate it.

if not...well would you be interested in buying it from me? I'd send the card, the antenna that came with it, and my custom built adapter. 10 bucks plus shipping. bought it at 30 US...

 

Thank you very much for the information. You are right the pictures you took are poor quality but you've provided me with some chips info which is a good start for me. What is considering your problem. Is it possible that you will try with Vista? It is a reason why on HP site you can download drivers for A301/A312/A321 cards only for Vista.

 

That's unfortunate. I have an AverMedia A-301 in my ASUS F3Sv and have no problems as you describe. The audio is always synced with the video unless the overall reception is bad. When using the supplied external antenna, if it is not pointed in the right direction, then the reception is bad and the audio/video sync is off. This is with either Media Center in Vista Ultimate or GB-PVR.

I haven't tried playing a game through it, so I can't comment on that.

well, did i mention avermedia's own software doesn't recognize the card? even funnier, i sent multiple emails to them for drivers and they didn't even know they made this card. i had to send em a link to their own product.

oh and also, most problems aren't really noticeable if you're not making comparisons to another TV or radio. the broadcast really is up to 3 seconds delayed. and you saw the problem with the sync yourself.

and I'm not gonna try vista. i have enough problems with my machine already without adding another bloatware.

 

That's bad. I haven't looked at the AverMedia site. The drivers I have came from ASUS.

I haven't compared it directly to a TV. The only times I have used it near a TV, the laptop was tuned into HD digital channels and the TV was on analogue. While they may have been the same show, I wouldn't have been surprised for them to be slightly out of sync anyway.

Personally, I prefer Vista to XP. I think it is much closer to what MS was claiming XP would be a while before they released it. This laptop runs well with it, doesn't feel slow and rarely crashes.

To anyone that is still trying to install avermedia a-312 tv tuner.i just installed in my dell xps m1330 laptop [vista ult]and ran 1/8 inch jack on right side of the computer by the hinge.I used the slot/hole that you would use for locking your laptop.I just made the hole bigger to fit the 1/8 socket and soldered the ant to it and it works perfect.i get cable,ant,fm and cam use rf mod for video games.the project took about one hour and looks like the plug is supose to be there.the drivers that came with the tuner was junk so you need to download one from hp or asus site.then download blase dtv program and tweak the tv to your needs.

 

do you have a powerful cpu/gpu and enough ram to handle hd video? also try a 2nd TV software to test

 

My xps has a centreno core 2 duo 2.o ghz,4 gigs ram.7,200 rpm 160 gig drive and intel 965 video chipset with 256 v-ram.
this laptop would run better with a deticated vdeo card,but even without it,the tv and dvd playback is suprisingly good.
keeping alot of unwanted programs runing in the background makes a big diference .

 

i have the c90s at 2.93Gz with the 8600m gt ddr2 card. it's supposed to be more than enough for it.

I have d630 with 2.6 core 2 duo and 4 gig ram i would like to add a an A312 to Or A301 or A306 (Which IS better? I need hybrid). your help would be greatly appreciated

 

Can anyone who has this card speak to what kind of slot it fits in. My laptop only has extra WLAN slots. They are a slightly lower height slot. Most SSD's dont fit because they are populated on both sides. This avermedia card has chips on the bottom but it doesnt look like there is alot of height to the bottom side.

Has anyone used this card in a WLAN slot or just SSD slots. Both are mini pcie its just the size of the card that is the issue.
