    I have it narrowed down to Intel 320 120GB / Crucial M4 120GB

Should I avoid the 320 because of "8MB Bug"

I know the M4 has lpm freeze issues but new update fixed it.

    I'll also be 7mm modding whatever I get (X220)

I'm sure Intel will fix it fast, they have a reputation to maintain!

    Intel 320 120GB - $185
    Crucial M4 128GB -$237
Includes taxes, which should I get?

Real life performance on X220 should be similar right ?

Real life performance will be similar.

Personally I wouldn't buy Intel 320 as long as the problems aren't fixed.

Crucial M4 starts at 208 at google shopping.

    Thanks. M4 it is.

One thing I cant find out is, is there a "warranty void if removed" sticker ? Since I'll have to remove the spacer for 7mm.

I don't see one in un boxing videos but perhaps there is some way for them to know I opened it.

Not one that I remember but I was just sticking it in...I don't remember any stickers preventing the spacer from being removed though. Again, I didn't look hard though, sorry I can't be more help.

I'm sure the spacer is there to be removed: their product suddenly get's 'x'% more exposure/compatibility with this feature than for SSD's built strickly to the 9.5mm (old) standard.

Just to add, I've used Intel X25-M SSD ES-version, X25-M gen 1, and X25-M gen 2, and had encountered the 8MB bug on all of them at one point or another. There is no fix, except to replace the controller.
Great to see Intel following up on this problem /s

At this point, it seems like an inherent problem with Intel SSD, and there is almost no chance they'll fix it. Tilleroftheearth may remember me back in the old days, where we argued about Intel SSD's reliability because of this issue.

    zephir, I do! :)

Ah, the good old days. lol...

Still, in total, Intel has had nothing like the issues that OCZ/SF drives have had, imo. And the issues that have surfaced for Intel drives have been very professionally addressed too.

Even the sudden appearance of an empty 8GB partition is not a real problem if you keep your backups up to date. As the fix is to format and repartition the drive and reinstall from backup and the drive is again good as new.

    Those were the days lol
Unfortunately I don't follow the SSD scene much anymore :p, but judging from the threads about OCZ/SF drives' problems, I'd say your point is valid.

Zephir, given your knowledge and experience I would be very grateful if you could elaborate more in detail on the 8MB failures that you encountered on the X25-M G1 and G2.

How did they occur? Was there any way to recover besides RMA? What did Intel say? etc ...

Is it possible to find out what firmware I have?
