Im getting my Dell XPS16 in a couple of days, but it doesnt come with a 7200RPM HDD and thats what i need. I know many people must of asked the same question several times but new hard drives are coming out on the market from several different companies, so what i want to know is whats the best 72K RPM 500GB HDD on the market right now.
an test results or comparisions would be great as im not too great in this specific area.
Thanks!![]()

Hitachi 7k500. It's t-h-e best performance 500GB drive IMHO. But I don't have any screenshots of HDTune, but I know many guys here do.

The 7K500 is the fastest 500GB notebook drive on the market as noted - I have the benchmarks to back it up. However, it is still beat by the Western Digital 320GB 7200RPM Scorpio Black in overall performance (in some applications by a significant margin), especially in random access times. The 7K500 can't be touched for sequential data transfer rates however. If I had a choice between the two, I'd get the 7K500 simply because it has more capacity.
