    Hi,

This has probably been a question as millions of times....but please bear with me.

I have an old Acer Aspire 5100. It got the BSOD a few months ago. We brought it to Best Buy/Geek Squad for it to get fixed (for a whopping $200). They returned the laptop to us, telling us they couldn't fix it. WHAT? And did I forget to mention they kept the $200?

Anyway, if possible, I'd like to fix my laptop. I have the system disk/recovery disks. I'm guessing the issue is with the HDD? Should I purchase a new HDD and use the recovery disks? Or what should I do?

I might suggest trying a Linux Live CD to see if it'll boot. If won't boot from a Linux disc it probably has some hardware issue.
