I know most of use are using SSD`s but still most of us are using HDD for storage, so the report below is still interesting.

For those of you wondering if drive vibration actually matters, here’s a video of someone stopping a drive array by yelling at it.

I understand what's going on but it's still really cool to see how it's actually affected.

Some older Fujitsu laptops had such an aggressive disc protection system that typing normally but hard enough would stop the drive for a moment.

Wow that data center is LOUD. Just don't yell at your disks. It hurts their feelings.

My WD external HDD is going strong after 6 years, sure I don't use it much but still.. My 1TB HGST 7K1000 is still going strong after almost 2 years.. I like WD/HGST!

Yeah the 7K1000 has coped rather well, especially considering that it gets very warm in the SM-A since I have two of them.

I didn't read it but toshiba drives always tend to get bad sectors before my other drives.

They can all have problems. You can't tell going in which is which.

I have purchased 5 year warranties on drives I needed due to size, but I was sure they were going to fail eventually, but never did - still running after 10 years.

Then I spend the extra for WD Black, and after 1 year develops bad sectors and I need to partition off the bad part of a 1TB drive and it's still running as a 500GB clean partition, and a 500GB partition with files locked to prevent undeleting bad sectors.

Seagates that were supposed to be garbage were still running in a RAID0 after years, no failures.

You can get a bad drive, batch, etc from any of the makers - but for the most part no problems at all.

Same for SSD's. Most run for years and years, some die in the first week with reports from others of the same.

Very true, I've been really lucky with the SSDs and HDDS I've had, they're still going strong after so many years!

HGST has been my go to mechanical for years, and intel/micron for SSD.

HGST drives are the same drives as their enterprise drives just sold as retail (At least 3.5"/ Not sure about others)

True that but not everyone can afford a 1TB 850 Pro SSD :p.. Also HDDs being like 6 times cheaper for same capacity don't help :D

oh im aware of that. and tbh, not sure if i wouldve made the same decision again, getting this drive at such a high price point :D maybe wouldve gone for the 512gb version instead... but pro nonetheless! as great a value that the evo family has, i just couldnt get myself to buy a TLC over and MLC drive... add to that 3D nand and 10 yrs warranty :)
