My brothers gpu fried on his hp pv8000 and I need to recover the files from the HD. It is an IDE type harddrive. I need a cable that will plug into the hd and then plug into a usb slot. I use newegg.com or tigerdirect.com What do I need to get?

Do you mean the HP dv8000? There are two versions of that model, the dv8000t and the dv8000z. The former has a SATA hard drive and the latter has an IDE. I assume you have the latter one (with the AMD processor). Is that right?

What you'll need is an external 2.5" hard drive enclosure. Newegg.com has a bunch, I personally recommend this one:

I've been using it for two years and it has been great. It's IDE.
