I want to backup my whole desktop hard drive (approx 80gb of files) to DVD+Rs. Is there a program or something to help me do this (ie. when one DVD cannot hold anymore, it will just prompt me to insert a empty DVD until my whole HDD is backed up)? Or do I have to manually calculate how much I can put on each DVD?

If you're using vista ultimate, vista's Complete PC Backup will do just that. :)

you can use nero, but you will have to manually drag the files onto the drive until you can no longer fit anymore.
It would be nice if their was something, but I do not think their is.

You may want to backu just personal and music files on dvd's and then have a full backup on an external harddrive.

Hm, how would I go about backing it up to a full external drive? Is there a program for that?

Yes it is possible. Norton Ghost or Acronis trueimage can image all of your files from your current harddrive onto an external one. From the external you can view your entire system from any computer you have the external plugged into.

Acronis can also split your backup images into DVD sized files.
