I think they used "bare" to indicate that it is not in an enclosure.

As for features, check the detailed specs.

Only HDD, in anti-static packaging prob., and a small piece of H/W attached ('cause its OEM).

Usually in a Retail package, you get a software disc, enclosure, jumper, etc.

In other words, it comes with the drive and nothing else. No cables, no manual, no disks, no enclosure. As long as you are swapping out another 2.5inch laptop hard drive with this one, everything should be fine (just make sure the old drive is SATA and not PATA. The one in your sig implies it is SATA.

My interpretation is its purpose is to reiterate that it is not in a retail pack. It does state oem, but some do not understand the difference. I find no reason to pay nearly double at times for a retail box if the drive is the only thing I need...

On some laptops, ie: Dell Latitude series, you need a special tray in order to mount the hard drive properly. Typically, you can remove this tray from an existing hard drive, and swap it over.

"Bare" means exactly that -- with no hardware of any kind (other than basic jumpers, if required, usually).

It's a hard drive meant for storage of 'bare pictures' ;p

It's just a regular OEM drive that will be sent to you with Newegg's awesome hard drive packing ability. Just don't order a bunch at the same time >_<.

Bare hard drives are packaged for quantity wholesale purchase. If you were in the computer manufacturing business, you would routinely buy, say, several 20pks of 320gb hard drives for $1500ea, for example. Retailers like Newegg buy these packs and pass on the savings onto the consumer.
