I'm looking to build a laptop with:
    CPU - P7450 or P8400
    15.4" - (around that)
9800 gt / gts - (or very similar)
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    7200rpm hard drive

Is this doable for under $1,000? I've built a lot of desktops, but never a laptop before. Where would I buy the parts at?

Any help would be great, thanks!

barebones can be bought from vendors like:

And buy parts from sites like:
    ...etc....

but your main problem that you will run into is $1000 will not be enough to get a high-end barebones system with 9800M.

you are better off just buying a fully configured system that comes with 9800M for under $1000.
    - ASUS G50VT

its at BestBuy for under $1000, and available on other sites like Newegg.

You could also pay a little more for a gateway FX 7805, or the 7811 (not sure the price on the 7811, but i assume less). You can get a refurb 7805 for 750 @ tigerdirect.

Or you could just buy Kevin Jack's M860TU for $975-
    It has the 9800GT.
The only sin it has committed is that it's not barebone- :D
