IDEA:
i had a dead drained battery from my dell e1705 and i came up with an idea to make a cooler out of it![]()
many of u probably keep their batteries in the laptops and use it as an UPS, but a cooler might be useful for gamers![]()
PARTS:
so basically what i used here: 1x laptop battery, 3x 60mmx60mmx15mm fans, 1x usb cable. tools used: sharp knife, isolation tape, superglue, drill.
ive used 5v fans so that they can be powered through USB, i used USB cable with 2 endings - thats what i found in junk
WORK:
it was pretty easy to do, took me 1 hour at most: open the battery, take out the cells, cut edges+insert and glue/tape the fans, cut out the battery cover, connect and tape all the cables, seal and glue the battery cover. hardest part was to drill holes in the bottom of the laptop case.
RESULT:
fans blow thru the whole laptop actively cooling it, results after 30 mins running the cooler are: GPU -2, HD -16 (?!), Chipset -5, Core1 -3, Core2 -5.
ill test it under load a bit later when i install some game, its fresh windows.
normal operating temps are as seen on pics.
what do you guys think?![]()

update: been running for over an hour now with only browser on, now the reductions from original are: GPU -6, HD -17, Chipset -9, Core1 -8, Core2 -9.

That's pretty cool. Does it blow air into the case?

As long as you allow access to the inside of the system by modding the chassis where the battery fits in, i think this is a nice idea. In some laptops, it won't work too well due to component placement, but in other laptops it will probably be a nice boon.

yeah it does blow into the case, i had to drill the case for that. its mainly blowing on the HDD as its directly in front of it. i forgot to mention that its a bit noisy, its been over an hour now and its getting annoying.
