How much of a hit will the battery life take with the use of a GeForce 8600 GT graphics card as opposed to an Intel GMA X3100 during simple task such as web browsing, music and movie playback, and office applications?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

Which computer are you looking at, specifically? Some, such as the Asus G1s, seem to have poor battery life while others, such as the Compal IFL90, seem to have decent battery life. In theory there should be little to no difference, as the 8m series clock down substantially when not being used, but in reality you'll loose some battery life.

The X3100 will improve battery life by at least 15-20%.

yeah i would say it depends on the task, if you are playing hd movies, i would say that you might squeeze out slightly better battery life and/or have a better movie watching experience at similar battery life expense.

non-intensive tasks like music / office / web - or "mow" you might see a substantial increase in battery life. i would say about 20%. that would be the difference between 3 hours and 3:30+

isnt the battery life only going to be affected if under a full load? so doign basic tasks shouldnt have much of a difference between the two.
