I have a Toshiba SAtellite A100 with the followind specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7200
1GB DDR2 533MHz Memory
256MB nVIDIA GeForce Go 7600...
Windows Vista Home Premium (32Bit)
I bought this notebook in May and so far had no problems with it....
But yesterday nite, I put da notebook into Hibernation & kept it in my bag.....I was sure that the battery was fully charged....
Today mornin...I found the bag to be hot....and on inspection I found out that the battery was fully drained (from full charge)...and the laptop was hot.....
I dunno how this happened....would someone please tell me what could have been the problem???
I bought this laptop from Kuwait.....and now I'm currently in India....
When I heard the news earlier that Toshiba was recalling defective battery packs.....
I checked my battery model no. and found it to be da same as the defective battery model no...
But, when I cheched with my Toshiba dealer in Kuwait....they told me that this problem was only in the U.S and did not affect batteries in Kuwait...
So I'm in a fix....Is my battery defective??? Or does hibernation drain battery???(I usually put my notebook into hibernation & hav neva xperienced this problem so far...)
And I have one more question regarding RAM upgrade....
Is Notebook memory and Desktop memory different???
My notebook came with 1GB DDR2 533MHz Memory...
And I want to add another 1GB.....
So should I buy 1GB DDR2 533MHz memory or 1GB DDR2 667MHz memory???
Both speeds are supported by my motherboard....
Will 1GB 533MHz run as Dual Channel with my existing 1GB memory???

i suspect that was failed hibernation
Happened to me few times. so basically your laptop still on because the hibernation is failed. -

1. I use hibernation a lot but I never shut the computer and put it in the bag until the power light has gone off because occasionally something stops the computer hibernating.
2. DDR2-667 will run as dual channel alongside DDR2-533. The BIOS detects the RAM and uses the slowest speed, so both modules will run at 533MHz.

I had made sure that all the LEDs (including the Power) had turned off before putting the laptop in the bag...
So I dont think it was failed hibernation...since all the LEDs were off....
And another thing is that the battery had a full charge(full 100% charge) when I put the laptop into Hibernation....
When I took the heated laptop out of the bag in the morning....the battery was completely drained out that the computer wouldn't turn on....
I have a doubt about hibernation....Can the computer turn on automatically after hibernation??? Coz ususlly the computer turns on from hibernation only when I open the lid....
And I have set a BIOS password...so the PC cant load Vista (even after Hibernation) unless I enter the password....
Then howcome, the laptop heated? Since Windows wasnt loaded...would the laptop still generate heat??
Well, Now it is working fine.....I charged the battery....
But can this be a symptom of a battery problem??
One of my friends also had the same problem with his HP dv2000t....
He had shut down the laptop and put it in his bag....
The next day on opening the bag, he found his laptop to be hot...
And upon pressing the power button, a message popped up saying 'Critical Battery Error' or smethin....
But the problem was solved after a recharge....just as mine....
My laptop is working fine now....
Does these kind of problems usually occur with laptops?? I'm asking coz this is my first laptop and I dont have any earlier xperience of having laptops... -

Computers shouldn't normally wake up from hibernation. However, some have provision to be woken up through the network connection so that remote updates can be done in an office environment. Yours was evidently not connected since it was in a bag, but it is worth going into Device Manager and checking the power options for each device (see the attached example) to make sure none are allowed to wake up the computer. I have also encountered a situation where the lights have all gone out but the computer work up about 5 seconds later.

One downside of putting in the 667Mhz RAM is it may have higher latency so you will run at the slower speed with the higher latency.
