I will be receiving my Compaq V5000 today with a 12 cell battery and was wondering how I should use it for the first time. Should I run it till I drain the battery out and then do a full recharge or what? I'm a little clueless in this department, thank you for your help.

Since new batteries don't have the memory effect like the older ones(Nickel something...), the first charge should be fine. Just charge it while you are setting up the lappy, then do a full discharge(Use it w/o the A/C til its empty) then charge it again. It should be fine after that.

Batteries are to be used, so no need to be so conservative ;)
