After about two weeks of usage, my notebook battery seems to be dead. It's almost brand new, so I don't understand why it is doing this. The battery was almost out of juice, so I plugged it in. It says that it is charging, but the power meter has said that I have 0% power for several hours now. Are there some settings I need to adjust, or is my battery screwed?

What kind of laptop and battery do you have? Does it run on AC power? You may need to recalibrate your battery, but I don't see it being THAT far off. You may have an issue--I'd get in contract with your manufacturer ASAP. Also, peruse the battery guide for more information.

Is it an off-brand generic battery? If so, that could be the problem. They are not built to the same safety and quality standards of the more expensive, brand-specific battery packs.

If when you were using the notebook on battery, then it may have just reached a charge capacity below a point, and the internal circuit might have deicided to cut of the battery cells totally. Its not likely, though, if the battery didn't reach a very low percentage.

Have you tried using it off the battery? Turn off the windows power management options that shutdown according to the meter. If it shuts off after a few minutes, then you know the battery can't physically hold a charge. If not, then the meter's not reading the battery correctly. This may happen if you somehow managed to completely drain it...which is one of the reasons you shouldn't drain a lithium ion battery. I'd recommend a recalibration like Vespoli said, but it's been known to kill working but faulty batteries outright.
