If you have two identically spec'd out notebooks, and the only difference between the two was that one had a 15.4" screen and the other had a 17" screen, how much more battery power will the 17" screen consume versus the 15.4"? How much longer will the battery last with the 15.4" screen over the 17"?

No way will a 17inch screen have 30-60 minutes less battery life.

My Samsung SyncMaster on my ENVY U709 is 17.8", and it only consimes 7.5 watts.
My Dell has a 15.4" screen at it consumes 5.8 watts.

Put this in perspective, you should get at max 10 minutes-15 minutes less battery, well depending on the capacity of the battery.

The only part which consumes power in the screen is the backlight. The backlight in a 17" screen is only slightly bigger than the backlight in a 15.4" screen.

Whenever possible, go for the battery which has the most capacity.

Dont worry about battery life, it will undoubtedly last longer than mine. With my Quadro at full speed, and my Opteron 185 running at full speed, I only get around 35 minutes.

I tend to agree with K-Tron's overall statement. Here is a very very good read that does addresses the LCD power consumption question as well as most components in a current system, very easy read, Link. You are talking like 5 maybe 10 minutes less every 2 hours.
