    Hello everybody,

I would like to ask you for help with a problem I have with my new laptop battery (12cell). The laptop is HP Pavilion dv5 1080ev and the problem is that when the battery reaches 100% it does not stop charging. If I remove and then replace the battery, it charges for a few more seconds and then stops, but it does not if I just leave it there, charging.

I would like your opinion on whether this could be a problem of the battery or my computer.

    Thank you very much!

What do you mean it "does not stop charging"? You should completely drain the battery and the charge it to full once and see if that fixes it, sometimes the computer has to calibrate the levels because it is a 12Cell battery which is quite a large one.

It sound like the same issue I have with my G73 lemon - Windows reports 100% plugged in charging and others with the same model report it stops in the range of 95-98 % as deslgned to prevent overcharging. I have calibrated the battery & even got are replacement from ASUS (same issue)

    Thank you for your attention.

I actually watched the computer to see how exactly it acts when it reaches 100%. What I noticed is that the battery led turns off on reaching 100% and after a ~couple of seconds it turns back on.

So the problem is with the laptop, right?

    Thanks

PS: I am using ubuntu. Could this be a Software issue?

Yea it could be, I've had speaker and other LED problems with Ubuntu, I would install windows 7 or something and see if it does that, If it doesn't it's probably just ubuntu

    Hello again.

I tested the battery under windows xp and the problem is gone. So now I would like to ask if there is another power management tool/program.

    Thanks in advance!!!
