This one is relevant to my current situation because I'm considering getting one of the new AMD based Dell notebooks, and I know the Intel versions of that laptop can get a good four hours of "real world" use with the nine cell. How do you think the AMD version might compare? I've heard AMD processors tend to consume more juice, but I'm not sure to what extent they do this. Is there much of any difference between the Sempron and Turion models in this regard?

Hard to say, and I've seen very few tests that really examine this...
AMD's mobile processors do consume a bit more power, but on the other hand, their motherboards tend to use less (because the memory controller is located on the CPU, and so, its power consumption is included in the CPU's, rather than the motherboards)
But overall, yeah, they still use a bit more than an equivalent Intel system. -
Would depend on the config, mines gets about 6 hours of battery life. The processors will limit itself so it will consume less power. The AMD system tend to be less powerful then the Intel equvilent version, and less power consuming.

I have a turion x2, and with regular use and wifi/full screen brightness I get upwards of 4 hours. If I turn down the brightness and maybe wifi, I can get somewhere around 5+ hours depending on use.
Battery life and AMD processors...
